Aria demands that Kinji join her Butei party, intruding in his living space when he refuses. This puts Kinji in an awkward situation when his childhood friend, Shirayuki Hotogi, pops over whilst Aria is taking a bath. The next day, Aria follows Kinji around as he takes on a quest to search for a missing cat. After managing to lose Aria, Kinji trades some eroges with his friend, Riko Mine, to obtain information on Aria. Meanwhile, Aria calls Kinji's bluff on his Butei abilities and coerces him to agree to join her on a single Assault case, so she can witness his Hysteria Mode. || Kinji finds that Aria is overbearing and bossy, moving into his apartment when he refuses to become part of her Butei Assault Team. This leads to some awkwardness when Hotogi Shirayuki visits him that night while Aria is in the bath. The next day, Aria follows Kinji around while he tries to complete a low-level Butei mission involving finding a lost cat. After escaping from Aria he meets up with his friend Mine Riko and trades eroges with her for information on Aria. Later, Aria finally convinces Kinji to join her Butei team for one mission so she can see his mysterious Hysteria Mode in action.

Aria follows Kinji to the arcade where he manages to win some plush dolls for her. The next day, Kinji and Aria learn that a schoolbus has been hijacked by the fabled Butei-killer and fitted with a bomb that will explode if it slows down with an armed convertible preventing the passengers from interfering. As the busdriver gets injured when an attempt to stop the convertible is foiled by heat-detection, Aria and Kinji arrive on the scene, taking out the convertible. With the bus slowly running out of gas, Aria finds the bomb on the underside of the bus whilst Kinji finds and destroys the communications sensor. The bomb is disarmed by the sniper ace, Reki, but Aria is injured by another armed vehicle whilst trying to protect Kinji. As she is treated in hospital, she feels disappointed that Kinji didn't meet her expectations. || Riko gives Kinji an arcade ticket so he goes to the arcade for a little relaxation. He plays the UFO catcher and manages to get two stuffed toys for Aria. The next day, Kinji once again misses the bus to school, but the Butei Killer has struck once again, and planted bombs in the bus, set to explode if the bus slows down below a certain point. This becomes Kinji`s first mission with Aria. They manage to destroy an remotely-operated car that is shooting the bus with a mounted gun, and board the bus, trying to find and defuse the bomb. Aria sees the bomb planted on the bus chassis, but is unable to reach it. Kinji tries to find the sensors that the Killer is using to know what is going on, but a second car appears and shoots at them, and would have killed him if Aria did not intervene. She is wounded as a result. The sniper Reki, on a helicopter, manages to shoot the bomb off the bus. Aria is disappointed with Kinji`s performance in the mission and decides that he isn`t the partner for her.

After having nightmares concerning the events surrounding his older brother's death, Kinji ends up following Aria who goes to the police station to talk with her mother, Kanae, who is currently incarcerated as a suspect of the Butei killings. She mentions that Aria needs to find a partner to use her ability, as well as someone known as 'E.U.' The next day, Kinji hears word that Aria will be flying back to London. Later, Kinji goes to meet Riko, who reveals information concerning the Butei Killer, which also mentions his brother who died during a 'sea-jacking', before pulling some moves which sends Kinji into his Hysteria Mode. With his heightened senses, Kinji deduces that Aria's plane is being targeted by the Butei Killer, managing to get on it before it takes off. During the flight, Kinji learns that Aria has a fear of lightning before the Butei Killer announces his hijacking. They soon discover the culprit is Riko herself, who reveals herself to be the great granddaughter of Arsene Lupin, who organised the bike and bus jackings to target Aria, the great granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes, so she can surpass her great grandfather. She also reveals herself to be the one who killed Kinji's brother, who was also her lover. Riko and Aria enter an intense duel, but Riko gains the upper hand by using the true nature of the Quadra, which allows her to manipulate her hair, managing to shoot Aria in a critical area. || Kinji is walking down the street, reminiscing about the fate of his brother, who had also been a Butei, who was killed in a maritime hijacking incident that he later learns was also the work of the Butei Killer. He sees Aria in the street and follows her, but she catches him, and tells him to come with him. She goes to a police station where her mother is being held, suspected as the Butei Killer. She urges Aria to find a good partner as she cannot handle the true Butei Killer alone. Kinji later hears that Aria is leaving Japan on a chartered flight to London. He goes to a karaoke bar with Riko, who proceeds to seduce him, activating his Hysteria Mode briefly, and he deduces from what she tells him that Aria is in danger. He rushes to the airport, boards the plane, and as he expected the plane is hijacked by the Butei Killer, who turns out to be none other than Riko herself. She reveals that she is the fourth lineal descendant of Arsène Lupin, the famed master thief, just as Aria is the fourth descendant of his arch-nemesis Sherlock Holmes, and that she staged all of the Butei Killer incidents and tried to bring Kinji and Aria together, so that she could prove that she was better than her famous ancestor. Aria and Riko fight, but Riko manages to shoot Aria in the chest.

Kinji works quickly and uses a medicine to save Aria's life. When Aria yells at him as a result, Kinji kisses her to simultaneously calm her down and activate his Hysteria mode. Confronting Riko as she approaches. Just then the plane starts descending, so Aria rushes to the controls whilst Kinji confronts Riko, who escapes after blowing out the plane's door before the plane is hit by missiles, blowing out some of its engines and causing a fuel leak. Despite interference by the government, Kinji manages to ease the plane into an emergency landing thanks to the other Butei. Afterwards, just as Aria is prepared to leave, Kinji agrees to be her partner, though this does not settle well with Shirayuki. || Kinji takes Aria, unconscious from the shot, and treats her so that she revives. He undoes her blouse and kisses her; his arousal at this activates his Hysteria Mode. When Riko gets to them he is prepared, and they manage to chase her off. The plane lurches as this happens, making them realise that it probably has no pilot, so Aria, who knows how to fly planes, goes to the cockpit, while Kinji goes after Riko. He finds her as she is preparing to make her getaway, mysteriously mentioning an organisation called EU whom she works for, and implying they have his brother. She manages to escape, and Aria and Kinji must get the plane to land safely, damaged as it is by Riko`s compatriots, who have fired missiles on it just as she escaped. They manage this despite the JSDF threatening to shoot the plane down if they disobey their instructions to essentially crash the plane into the sea. Afterwards, Aria realises she really needs a partner and there could be no other partner for her but Kinji. At the last minute Kinji changes his mind and chases after her.

Shirayuki is revealed to be a Chōtei, a special type of Butei with esper abilities, as she conflicts with Aria, not helped by dubious misunderstandings. The next day, Aria decides to start a new training regime to try to get Kinji to control his Hysteria Mode. Later, Aria drags Kinji to eavesdrop on Shirayuki as she is taken to the teacher's office, hearing about a Chōtei kidnapper named Durandal who may be targeting her. Believing Durandal to be one of the culprits who framed her mother, Aria offers to be Shirayuki's bodyguard, which she agrees to on the condition that Kinji does so as well, moving into his house in the process. || Shirayuki has showed up at Kinji`s door, enraged that he is living with Aria. She breaks down his door and fights with Aria, trashing his apartment before he can calm them down. She makes several attempts to kill Aria later as well, seeing her as a thieving cat who has stolen Kinji from her. Kinji explains how Shirayuki is a Butei with supernatural powers that come from her training as a shrine maiden. They later learn that she is being targeted by someone called `Durandal`, who seems to have been responsible for some of the crimes Aria`s mother was accused of. They volunteer to be Shirayuki`s bodyguards. Life with Aria and Shirayuki is less than peaceful.

Recovering from a cold, Kinji continues to be trained by Aria in case of encountering Durandal. Soon, the two had a fight as Kinji believes that Aria lied about Durandal’s existence. Shirayuki explains to Kinji how Hotogi are restricted to venture out of the shrine but she wanted to see the firework festival. Later Kinji suggests that the two should go to the fireworks festival to which Shirayuki agrees, knowing that she is breaking the rules of the shrine. Further in the night, Shirayuki received a text message that she kept to herself. The following day at school, Shirayuki suddenly disappeared. With the help of Reki, Kinji was able to locate Shirayuki in the basement of a warehouse. While hiding, Kinji discovers Shirayuki negotiating with the hidden Durandal in order to protect the school. It is revealed that the text message and fake call for help was from Durandal last night. Kinji jumps in to rescue Skirayuki but is quickly pinned down by Durandal. || Kinji quarrels with Aria, not believing her intuitions about Durandal, whom he believes, as do most, to be a myth. He goes on to try to protect Shirayuki by himself, not realising that Durandal has already contacted her secretly, and is threatening the students and Kinji in particular in exchange for her cooperation. He realises this almost too late, when he finds her about to give herself up to Durandal, who also seems to be working for EU, the same mysterious organisation Riko works for. Aria shows up then, saying that he served his purpose, and proceeds to try to apprehend Durandal.

As Aria makes an entrance claiming that she will arrest Durandal, the culprit retreats and chains Hotogi to a post as the room starts filling up with water. Kinji urges Aria to go ahead and pursuit Durandal since she can’t swim, who does so. As the water level rapidly increases, Kinji tries his best to pick the locks and free Hotogi as she asks him to leave her behind so he wouldn’t be killed. When a wave fills up the room, Kinji uses his last resort and kisses Hotogi in order to ‘summon’ his badass side. Aftering freeing her, they get swept off separating the two. Kinji returns to the surface where he finds Hotogi, who however is actually Durandal who had successfully tricked Aria, putting her at risk. The real Hotogi shows up and confronts Durandal where as she demands that she will fight herself and use a forbidden technique. || Durandal manages to grab Shirayuki, and Aria and Kinji chase after her. They find her chained to the wall in a lower level of the warehouse, but Durandal is flooding the area. Kinji tells Aria to chase Durandal up to the higher level since she cannot swim, while he tries to free Shirayuki. Kinji is unable to pick all the locks before the water level rises above Shirayuki`s head, so he activates Hysteria Mode by kissing her, and he is able to pick the locks very quickly. Shirayuki is washed to the upper level ahead of him, and he sees her there. He asks her how her lips are, just as Aria arrives, and when this fails to fluster her he realises that "Shirayuki" is an impostor. The real Shirayuki appears and fights Durandal, whose true identity is Jeanne d`Arc XXX. By working together they manage to defeat Jeanne.

Kinji goes to as he first thinks Aria's room, but after the change in attitude he realizes it's Riko. She then proceeds to attempt moves which will make him enter Hysteria Mode, but Aria interrupts by smashing through the window. They then start to fight which takes the three to the roof, where Aria tells Riko to testify at her mother's trial which, oddly enough, Riko doesn't refuse. Riko explains how Vlad expelled her from I.U. because she didn't defeat Aria, so Kinji and Aria are forced to join Riko's theiving group. Later Aria accuses Kinji of being "hypnotized" because of Riko and Aria's figures, but Kinji won't tell Aria about his brother, Kinichi, who is also in I.U. || Kinji is apparently called by Aria to the girls dormitory, to find that it is Riko disguised as Aria, who again tries to seduce him. The real Aria arrives and tries to fight her, but Kinji stops her, saying that she must have been able to return by bargaining with the government. Riko tells them that she plans to steal back her treasure from Vlad, the second in command of the E.U., and wants their help doing it. Aria and Kinji reluctantly agree. Shirayuki sees Kinji and Riko walking together in the rain and takes exception to her, and they have a brief fight before Riko leaves. Shirayuki tries to seduce Kinji again by locking them together in the school infirmary and taking off her clothes, but Kinji manages to escape by a window.

Riko explains the plan of how they will infiltrate the mansion and claims that they will go in undercover as a butler and maid. With the agreement done, they undergo one more ‘training session’ where as Riko helps train Aria to say some lines and get time stuck in her head, and aims to practice triggering Kinji’s Hysteria Mode. At the same time, Kinji learns a bit about Riko’s past thanks to Jeanne who is now a student at the school. || To prepare them for the mission, Riko brings Aria and Kinji to a maid café, where she explains that her treasure, a rosary which is a keepsake from her late mother, is being kept by Vlad. The plan is for Aria and Kinji to infiltrate Vlad`s villa in Yokohama disguised as a maid and butler. Kinji is made to go to one of the infirmaries but on the way he sees Jeanne playing the piano. She was evidently also given a plea bargain and explains about how Vlad is some sort of inhuman monster who has lived for centuries, and that both her ancestors and Riko`s planned his overthrow over a century ago and failed, and how Riko wants to be free of Vlad after having suffered under his heel most of her life. Kinji arrives at the infirmary right on time and a group of female students has been made to take a physical exam, so he hides in a locker where Mutou has already positioned himself to spy on the girls. The girls include Reki, Aria, and Riko and it is evident to Kinji that her plan was to train him in achieving Hysteria Mode. It is soon obvious that Aria is able to most easily excite Hysteria Mode in him for some reason. The two boys are exposed just as a white wolf attacks them under Vlad`s orders, but Kinji and Reki manage to subdue the wolf after chasing it through the school.

After having practiced and prepared themselves for the infiltration, Riko disguises herself as a working from the employment agency to introduce Aria and Kinji on the job. However her appearance makes Kinji feel sensitive after he had thought she was originally a girl named Kana. With that said, they show up at the mansion only to see their teacher being the one currently in charge of the place. After a week passes by of investigation and prep, they finally put the motion in action where as Kinji successfully retrieves the rosary, however the minute he gives it back to her and receives a kiss, Riko betrays them and reveals that she now has the tool she needed in order to defeat Aria. || Their training complete, Riko brings Kinji and Aria to the villa, disguised as someone Kinji recognises as `Kana`, who has significance for him he refuses to explain. At the villa, they see the popular teacher Sayonaki, who is supposedly staying at the house doing his research with the owner`s permission. They remain at the villa for two weeks, eventually discovering the precise location of Riko`s rosary which is under heavy security, and Sayonaki`s behaviour seems very suspicious. At the end of the two weeks Riko has them move, with Aria distracting Sayonaki as Kinji goes down into the underground storage room to take the rosary. Riko cuts Aria off from their radio link and speaks to him seductively in Aria`s voice, which activates his Hysteria Mode, and that allows him to steal the rosary just before Aria and Sayonaki return. After they deliver the rosary back to Riko, she double-crosses them, saying that she used them to retrieve it and now will defeat them both.

Kinji and Aria give the rosary to Riko who does not keep her promise to testify and instead decides to attack the two of them so as at to defeat them and surpass her ancestors. Sayonaki-sensei then appears behind Riko tasering her until she becomes subdued and then steps on her and causes her pain. Sayonaki-sensei turned out to be the demon, Vlad and attacks both Aria and Kinji. Kinji saves Riko and tries to fight Vlad with Aria. The only way to kill him is to simultaneously shooting his four weak spots, but they fail to find the last one and Kinji is knocked over the edge of the roof they are fighting on. Riko saves him and Aria and helps him re-enter hysteria mode so that he can make a plan to kill Vlad. Kinji then figures out the final weak-spot, his mouth and the three of them kill Vlad. Afterwards, Riko testifies so that they can lower Aria's mother's sentence. || Just as Riko is getting ready to fight Aria and Kinji, she is tased from behind by Sayonaki, who turns out to not only be a scientist working on a eugenic programme of which Riko had been a part, but actually Vlad himself, as her despair makes him transform into his monster form. Aria and Kinji find themselves in an impossible position as their bullets fail to harm Vlad, as they do not know where his fourth weak spot is. Kinji attempts to get Riko away before returning to the battle, and she tells him that she believes his fourth weak spot is in his chest. They try to do this, but it does not work, and Kinji`s Hysteria Mode wears off, but not before he notices something important. He nearly falls off the building in Vlad`s counter-attack, but Riko manages to save him using her parachute-dress, and they circle around and pick up Aria. Between them they have four guns with one shot each. Kinji lands with his face on Aria`s chest and this restores his Hysteria Mode, and they attack Vlad one last time. Kinji noticed how Vlad attempted to protect his mouth the last time they shot at him, and he correctly deduced that was where his fourth weak spot was, and that way they manage to kill him. Afterwards, Riko makes her escape, but keeps her promise to testify on Aria`s mother`s behalf.
