He appears to have lost all of his memories, and can't seem to remove a mask of bone affixed to his forehead. || A young girl finds a mysterious, masked man with severe injuries lying alone in the forest. She brings the man home and carefully treats his wounds. When the stranger finally wakes, he remembers nothing of his past.

2. Ruler of the Wild Forest
The Queen of the forest, Mutikapa, is angered and begins killing some of the townspeople. Hakuoro works with the others to figure out a way to defeat it. || When a sacred shrine is destroyed, the Queen of the Forest responds by killing innocent villagers, and Hakuoro joins the desperate effort to appease the angry spirit.

Tusukuru is thought to be missing from the village though is later found offering aid to a young girl with a strange affliction. || A village elder appears to have vanished from the village, but Hakuoro eventually discovers her tending to a girl with an unusual sickness.

Tusukuru is inadvertently killed and members from the village go on a mission to kill the feudal lord responsible. || When the elder is murdered, the devastated villagers set out to extract a full measure of vengeance against those responsible for her death.

Hakuoro takes over command of the station which he captures, beginning to strategically lead a large-scale rebellion. When rallying troops to rise up against the oppressive government, however, he runs into Benawi, the empire's Samurai leader. || Hakuoro seizes control of the captured station and begins planting the seeds of rebellion in the minds and hearts of the oppressed citizens.

6. Gathering Force

Finally, Hakuoro's small army reaches the castle of Emperor Inkara, to find, when they arrive, that he had already died by Benawi's blade. After this, Benawi and Kurou join Hakuoro. || Hakuoro leads his small army of rebels to the gates of the Emperor’s castle, but they are stunned by unexpected news.

Kuccha Keecha turns out to be a more formidable opponent than originally anticipated, more so now that they have the support of the Evinkuruga Touka. Hakuoro is still haunted by what Niwe said to him and has nightmares about it. Later a duel between Benawi and Oboro takes places to see how strong each is. Near the end of the episode, Hakuoro is introduced to another emperor named Kuuya. || Hakuoro tries to shake Niwe’s haunting final words, and Benawi and Oboro fight each other to determine who possesses the superior strength.

17. The Young Sovereign
Kuuya and Hakuoro have a long talk alone about the world they live in and the state of affairs. Later, Oboro is suffering from a hangover and must take Erurū revolting medicine in order for it to pass quicker. Also, the trader from before comes back to sell them a Mikyūm which is a rare and extremely valuable animal. Finally, Hakuoro has yet another private discussion with Kuuya where he discovers that the masked emperor is in fact a young girl. || Hakuoro shares a long and heartfelt talk about the state of the world with Kuuya. Later, he learns something surprising about the emperor who hides behind a mask.

Karura's younger brother Derihouri is leading a revolt in a neighboring country though his small army is no match for the force he is trying to oppose. Though spirited, his undermanned army is dwarfed by its opponent.

The avu-kamuu of Kuuya seem unstoppable, and Hakuoro decides to evacuate the capital. || Led down a bloody path by her advisors, Kuuya simultaneously engages all nations in a colossal war aimed at bringing peace to the continent.

22. Odious Pact
As the forces of Emperor Kuuya descend upon Tusukuru's capital, Hakuoro realizes that the evacuation is going to take longer than they have, and so decides to sacrifice himself to draw their attention away. However, Aruruu isn't prepared to let this happen, and shows up riding Mukkuru. The immortal Mutikapa is able to attack the Avu-Kamuu without being hurt, but Aruruu is hit with a single blow and died. However, the pool of blood growing behind Aruruu begins to bring back Hakuoro's memories, and new questions start arising in his mind: What is he? What unknown powers does he harbor? || With Emperor Kuuya’s army threatening his capital city, Hakuoro arrives at a horrifying realization: there will not be enough time to evacuate his people.

23. Where the Heart Lies
The first heavy defeat in battle with Kuuya in the previous episode slows down the war. In the next, relatively calm, days Hakuoro remembers some of his past. Who really is the Iceman? Why does this "Mikoto" in his memories resemble Erurū so much? Genjimaru leaves Kunnekamun since he knows they are on a path to annihilation. He joins Hakuoro offering his guide for the armies. Genjimaru seems to be betraying Kuuya, but he acts this way since he wants to save her from the war. Understanding that, Hakuoro accepts his help. The first step is unite all the rebels left by Kunnekamun's passage. In order to do that, Hakuoro arranges a mission to rescue the Oruyankuru. The old man is saved, but then he declares that Urutorii is the new Oruyankuru and retires. || A devastating defeat leads to a lull in the fighting, during which Hakuoro reflects on his past and ponders the true identity of the “Iceman.”

With the help of the rebels and Genjimaru's military command the Tusukuru empire stops Kunnekamun and soon turns the tables of the war.
