1. Murder at the Ball
Kaoru Kanou, a corporate president who is under suspicion for arrest, holds a ballroom event. Among the invitees are Shinjūrō Yūki, a curious detective, his strange assistant, Inga, and Rie, the daughter of police detective Rinkako Kaishō. During the event, Kanou is mysteriously murdered by a knife in his back, with suspicions placed on a member of the SP police who was found shot dead in the hallway. However, thanks to Shinjūrō's detective work, along with the strange abilities of Inga, who transforms into an adult capable a forcing an answer to any one question she asks someone, they soon discover the culprit is Kanou's wife, who wanted him to die a hero. || In a near-future, post-war Tokyo, the war hero president of a major corporation is murdered at his own party. Will the brilliant, young Shinjurou prove his self-proclaimed title as "the last great detective" by solving the case, or will devious "Media King" Rinroku Kaishou beat him to it, leading to a questionable outcome and the branding of Shinjurou as the "Defeated Detective" once again?

2. Pitiless Song
A wealthy woman named Hisako Osada is found murdered in a briefcase that was delivered to her home. Whilst the police suspect Hisako's lover to be the culprit, her daughter, An, believes someone else is behind the murder and calls on Shinjūrō to investigate. Their investigation leads them to look into an idol group Hisako managed named Yonagahime 3+1, one of its members of which, Eri, was allegedly killed in a terrorist attack. Inga uses her powers on one of Yonagahime's members, who reveals that Eri never existed and was just used by Hisako to skyrocket the band's popularity during a war. || A trunk is delivered to a mansion by an unlicensed taxi driver. Inside is the corpse of the mansion`s owner, Osada Hisako. Based on Kaishou Rinraku`s deductions, a manhunt begins for the suspect, Aramaki. But An, the daughter of Osada Hisako, tells Shinjurou that Aramaki isn`t the killer. This leads the "Defeated Detective" into a search for the real murderer as well as the secret behind wartime pop group Yonagahime.

3. Masked Mansion
Rie calls on Shinjūrō and Inga to accept a request from Mitsuko Sasa, whose adopted brother Kazamori caught on fire and died, allegedly related to a curse from her father, Komamori, who died in a similar manner seven years ago. As Izumi's group conducts their own investigations on the cause of Kazamori's death, Inga uses her powers to reveal that Kazamori is actually a supercomputer. || Rie pays Shinjurou a visit, thinking he`ll be able to solve the mystery that occurs at the Sassa house. The deceased is the head of the Sassa household, Kazamori Sassa. Kazamori`s father, Komamori, was a brilliant researcher in the field of artificial intelligence, but during the war, his research was suppressed and he was subsequently killed in an explosion. Seven years later, his son, Kazamori, also dies suddenly in an explosion. Is it murder, suicide, or perhaps a curse...?

4. House, Unmasked
It is revealed that Kazamori was actually a program known as RAI, one of the last built by Komamori before they were outlawed. As Kazamori is accused of killing the corpse that was assumed to be him, Shinjuurou and Inga download Kazamori into a doll before he is taken into custody. After discovering that the corpse was an outside and learning that Kazamori's maintainer, Dr. Taku, was also a RAI, Shinjuurou and others soon discover the culprit is Komamori, who faked his death using the body of the real Dr. Taku so that his RAI wouldn't be used by the military. After Komamori is arrested, Kazamori moves his consciousness to a doll of a girl so he can continue its life. || The former head of the Sasa family, Komamori Sasa, developed a groundbreaking artificial intelligence known as RAI (Real A.I.), but the technology was banned by the government and consigned to oblivion. Shinjurou`s brilliant reasoning follows a trail to the past and exposes the Sasa family`s hidden truth. But even then, a mystery remains, until a certain event provides the young detective with a hint, dispelling all of his doubts!

5. The Statue of Illusion
At the unveiling of a statue created in memory of three youths who sacrificed themselves to dispose of a bomb, two people who were snuck in to try and unveil a purported scam behind the story are found murdered inside the statue. Shinjuurou initially suspects the statue's commissioner, Hakuro Shimada, as the murderer, but Inga's question proves his innocence. After a brief depression and a pep talk from Kazamori, Shinjuurou deduces the culprit to be the statue's creator, Youko, who killed the men before they were transported, before later revealing the location of gold bricks that Hakuro had hidden. || During the war, three students bravely volunteered to prevent a terrorist bombing . After the war, it became taboo to speak of their actions, but the unveiling of a bronze statue is held to praise the three young heroes. The sponsor is Hakurou Shimada, the leader of the "Rising Sun Party", a political organization the three students had been involved in. But then, during the ceremony, two corpses are discovered inside a hidden cavity in the statue. Shinjurou had been invited to the unveiling, so with two murder victims right in front of him, he gets caught up in the puzzling case.

6. The Code Too Simple
Shinjuurou is approached by Yajima, an old friend of Rinroku, who found a piece of manuscript in a book given to him by an inmate whilst he was in prison. After discovering Yajima's wife Takiko's fingerprints on the paper, Shinjuurou informs Rie, who investigates how the book relates to Rinroku. Shinjuurou later hears from Yajima about how his children disappeared and his wife went blind, allegedly having an affair with Rinroku. Shinjuurou looks at all the books Rinroku bought from the Yajima family, finding more hidden codes which are revealed to be from Yajima's children. As it turns out, Rinroku had helped the children and placed them in child care to avoid Takiko's neglect, and they are soon reunited with Yajima. Afterwards, Shinjuurou confronts the prisoner who gave Yajima the book, learning something shocking. || Yajima, a man who has just gotten out of prison, pays Shinjurou a visit. It turns out that he`s an old friend of Kaishou and he asks the young detective to break a secret code. Folded inside of a purloined book from Kaishou`s library is a piece of paper from Yajima`s own personalized manuscript paper with a series of numbers written on it. The decoded message indicates a planned rendezvous, which leads to the suspicion that Kaishou and Yajima`s wife had an affair while Yajima was incarcerated. But where are the Yajima children, who suddenly disappeared one day?

7. Daydream
As the prisoner explains how he is 'a novelist who writes in reality', a strange being accompanying him traps Shinjuurou in a vision where he is a cameraman shooting a film about a war that never happened. As Shinjuurou becomes curious about whether the director is involved with one of the actresses, he gets the nagging feeling that there's a mystery to be solved. As Shinjuurou loses grip on this reality, he discovers the director has been killed and believes himself to be the culprit. || Shinjurou Yuuki is working as a movie cameraman. His current project is "The Retard", a film set in a fictionalized modern-day Japan that is embroiled in war, though the story focuses on three young women who escape from different places only to wind up living together in the closet of a ramshackle house and being loved by the same man. The seeming disinterest of the director, Kichitarou Mitaka, is balanced by the passion of the three lead actresses. Their enthusiasm rubs off on Shinjurou, who becomes inspired to do the best work he`s ever done. But then, one day, Director Mitaka is murdered and the prime suspect is Shinjurou himself, apparently the last person to see the director alive...

8. King of Paradise
After determining that Shinjuurou had been imprisoned, Rie accompanies Izumi to the prison, where they are both put under the novelist's spell and become characters in his 'novel' alongside Shinjuurou. As Inga determines this is the work of a deity known as Bettenou, Kazamori manages to make use of a pair of taser handcuffs to snap Shinjuurou back to reality. Shinjuurou investigates into the real murder, determining the culprit to be one of the 'actresses', who killed the 'director', who was actually a security guard trying to help her escape, because she believed she was being cut from the movie. Meanwhile, Inga gets the truth out of the novelist whilst Bettenou disappears. || After searching for the missing Shinjurou on the net, Kazamori discovers that he`s in the East Kantou Social Rehabilitation Program Center, a prison. Shinjurou`s objective in going to this privately-run prison was to interview the criminal who calls himself "The Novelist" regarding a previous case. Through Rie, Rinroku, Koyama and Hayami also learn of Shinjurou`s whereabouts. Rie tags along as Koyama heads to the prison, where they first meet the Novelist, the last person to see Shinjurou before his disappearance...

9. Kaishou Rinroku`s Crime
As Shinjuurou wonders where Bettenou has disappeared to, a hacking group known as Full Circle is spreading leaks of Rinroku's company and lifestyle. As Rinroku makes an appearance on television show along with various people from rival companies, an explosion occurs when he exits the room, hospitalizing everyone including Rinroku, whilst another Rinroku appears at Rie's house. As Rie asks Shinjuurou to prove Rinroku's innocence the next day, Inga comes face to face with Bettenou. After Shinjuurou hears about the second Rinroku from Rie, he deduces that this is the work of Bettenou and believes Rinroku to be the one using her. He gets help from a rookie Diet member to have the hospitalized... || A group of crackers calling themselves "Full Circle" fix on JJ Systems as their target and begin attacking by leaking the company`s data as well as revealing Rinroku Kaishou`s private life. Amid those unfavorable winds, Kaishou appears on a TV talk show. The other participants, a politician, the president of a rival company, and the writer of a tell-all book are all critical of Kaishou. Just before, Full Circle spread the rumor across the net that Kaishou intends to gather together everyone who is hostile towards him and murder them. Then, right after the program starts, there is an explosion at the TV station. Eight people are dead or missing, including the participants on the program. Kaishou himself is seriously injured and taken to a hospital, but word spreads that he`s the one behind the blast. Meanwhile, Shinjurou is on the trail of Bettenou when he gets called to the hospital by Rie, who requests that he prove Kaishou`s innocence. Shinjurou is surprised by the irony, yet begins investigating...

10. Kaishou Rinroku`s Funeral
As Rinroku is interviewed via a live video feed, Shinjuurou has Rie tell everyone about the Rinroku that appeared in her home at the time of the explosion. To Shinjuurou's surprise, Inga is called in as a witness to question Izumi, forcing her to reveal secrets about Rinroku's involvement in illegal software used prior to the war. As the hospitalized Rinroku is discharged, he is killed in a car explosion. After speaking with Rie, Shinjuurou suspects something is amiss and manages to learn more about Bettenou from the novelist, further founding his theory that Rinroku used Bettenou's power to fake his death. || Inga has disappeared, but Shinjurou continues to search for the truth alone. While investigating the TV station bombing, Shinjurou, who suspects that Kaishou used Bettenou to do it, devises a plan to uncover the truth. Kaishou is requested to testify at a budget committee, but if done via video monitor while he`s in his hospital bed, Bettenou`s ability to manipulate people through a person`s words should be blocked. Kaishou, who easily deflects the rigorous interrogation, says, "There are an innumerable amount of truths. Being satisfied with just one truth is no more than ceasing to think about it beyond that point." Angered at the words, Shinjurou questions Kaishou without thinking and asks Rie to testify as his trump card. Rie explains, "Right after the explosion at the TV station, I saw my father at home." Was the Kaishou at the TV station an illusion produced by Bettenou? Then Inga appears in womanly form to ask the truth of an unexpected person!

11. I`m Just Searching
Shinjuurou, along with Rie, Izumi and some others, receive strange invitations supposedly sent by Rinroku. They are brought together at a table where they are presented with weapons, Shinjuurou believes that the imposter Rinroku was the one who appeared at Rie's home, deducing that the Diet member and Rinroku's bodyguard caused the explosion. It is at this point that Rinroku himself seemingly appears with Inga, only for Shinjuurou to deduce that he is actually Izumi's assistant, Shingen Hayami, using Bettenou's power, with the real Rinroku having disguised himself amongst the attendees, having previously faked his death. After a fierce battle, Inga defeats Bettenou and devours her. After the incident, Shinjuurou explains his relationship with Inga to Rie. || A mysterious invitation has been delivered to Shinjurou and several other people who have a connection to Chairman Kaishou. It contains the message, "An invitation to a party, in which the real person behind the bombing will be discovered" and seemingly bears the personal seal of Kaishou himself. And so, the people concerned gather together in the TV studio that had recently been bombed. A furious Izumi suspects Shinjurou of setting up the "farce", to which he responds, "I was called here, too. In other words, a crime is going to occur. And a major crime at that..." Was Kaishou behind the bombing? Shinjurou`s final deductions begin and along the way, Inga and Bettenou`s true identities are revealed. It culminates in a showdown between the two entities, but once everything is laid bare, what will be the relationship between Shinjurou, Inga and Rie?
